Sports Medicine Courses

In partnership with the Saskatchewan Sport Medicine & Science Council, the Saskatoon District Sports Council is pleased to offer the following programs & services:

Mini Sport 1st Aid Course (1.5 – 3.0 hrs) & Full Sport First Aid Course (7.0 hrs)

This course is taught by a Sport Physiotherapist certified by Sport Physiotherapist Canada
or a Certified Athletic Therapist certified by the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association.

Athlete Injury Prevention/Recognition/Care Sessions (1.0 – 1.5 hrs)

  • How to properly provide injury assessment
  • How to provide rehabilitative strength & stretching programs
  • How to provide injury care & prevention education

Sport/Athletic Taping Course (7.0 hrs)

This course is taught by a Sport Physiotherapist certified by Sport Physiotherapist Canada
or a Certified Athletic Therapist certified by the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association.

Topics include:

  • knowing when/when not to tape
  • ankle wrapping
  • ankle taping
  • wrist taping
  • thumb & finger taping
  • tensor bandaging

Sport Nutrition & Drug Education Seminars (1.0 – 3.0 hrs) of basic sport nutrition

  • pre/post event meals
  • fluids for sport
  • weight management
  • supplements, herbals, & homeopathic products
  • banned/restricted and illegal substances
  • doping control and testing procedures, alternatives to doping
  • fair play and ethics
